The LMRB Peoplemeter System is currently an important Industry Standard in TV Audience Measurement in Sri Lanka. It is the `currency’ for buying and selling air-time and the norm setter for programme performance and selection. 400 TV owning homes in Sri Lanka (excluding the North) have been carefully selected through the application of a specialized statistical technique known as AID [Automatic Interaction Detector], to data from a large Establishment Survey where the sample size exceeded 10,000. These homes were then visited and their main TV set fitted with a special electronic meter for monitoring their TV viewing 24 hours a day. This provides a sample size of approximately 1,600 individuals aged 4 years & over. Measurement The PeopleMeter automatically records in real time, TV set related events such as the time when the TV is switched on/off and the channels the TV is switched onto. It also records, in real time, when each individual in the house. - Begins to watch TV - Stops watching TV Each individual logs in/out by pressing a pre-assigned numbered button on the People Meter remote. Software The integration of telecast logs with viewing data on a continuous basis creates a massive database. Handling and utilising such a database is highly dependent on the capabilities of software packages available to the user. Media Xpress developed by Kantar is a software package of the highest international standard specially created for Telecasters and Ad Agency Planners. |
